Clausen House’s Residential Program provides coeducational housing for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our three group residences located in the Adams Point neighborhood near Lake Merritt in Oakland. Our homes are ideally situated to allow residents easy access to the many shops, theaters and restaurants in downtown Oakland and the Lake Merritt District.
Our homes serve 37 men and women, each of whom work, volunteer in the community, or attend a day program or community college. We emphasize independent living and self-sufficiency, responsible decision-making, and developing socialization, leadership and self-advocacy skills. Functional skill training is provided in cooking, maintaining a household, money management, effective use of leisure time, developing safe relationships, community safety, and use of public transportation.
Our residential program offers a robust menu of social activities selected by the clients that fit their preferences and interests.
Applicants who are considered for our Residential Program typically have mild to moderate mental retardation and may have dual diagnoses. They must be ambulatory, capable of performing basic self-care tasks, able to interact appropriately with others, and exhibit no aggressive behavior.
